A contract, called kidan (the same word is used for “Testament” in Biblical reference), does not have to be written, and usually is not. But it must be witnessed, preferably by more than one reliable person, preferably male. The contracting parties formally announce their agreement, then touch their palms lightly [...] If the contract is a last will and testament, the Confessor (menfes agway) holds the thumb of the testator while the will is formally spoken aloud.
