Mediate: The people usually eat with their hands,… | re/touch: an encyclopædia of touch and culture

The people usually eat with their hands, but many families own a store-bought metal fork or tablespoon for serving. A straight wooden pick, about 15 cm long and sharpened at one end, is often used to spear meat from a pot. This pick has ritual significance as well; it is used by young girls in seclusion during the first menses ceremony, when they are not allowed to touch food directly.
