When Aisa returns and moves toward the water pot to wash her hands, Ya Falta immediately stops her, saying that she must not touch the pot until she has scrubbed her hands with ashes. Ya Falta is trying to prevent Aisa’s fishy hands from contaminating the water supply that she alone laboriously fetches each day from the nearby well.
